CRSWMA
collects Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) at three one-day
collection events in the fall. Usually, the Carteret
County collection is in September, the Craven County
collection is in October and the Pamlico County collection
is in November. Call our offices after August 1 for
exact dates, times and locations for this year’s
events.
In
addition to using our fall collection events, there
are other ways to dispose of some household hazardous
waste items throughout the year.
Paint – Paint cannot be landfilled
because it is a liquid. Dried paint in cans can be
dumped with your regular trash. So can empty paint
cans. If you have paint that is not dry, leave the
lid off for a while and let it dry out, or speed up
the process by adding kitty litter or Oil-Dry to soak
up the liquid. Once it is not longer a liquid, we
will be glad to take it along with your regular household
waste.
In Craven County, paint is accepted for recycling
at the County Convenience Centers. Contact Craven
County Solid Waste at (252) 636-6659 for more information.
Used
Oil – Used oil is collected at County
convenience sites in Carteret and Craven counties
and at the Pamlico County Recycling Facility on NC
306 North of Grantsboro. Disposal of used oil is free
to residential customers.
Auto
Batteries – Used batteries are also
collected at all Carteret and Craven County convenience
sites and at the Pamlico County Recycling Facility.
Disposal of used batteries is free.
